Goodbye, Yervant.

In 2025, on the occasion of the twin European Capital of Culture (Nova Gorica and Gorizia), we decided to double the Darko Bratina Award, honoring two immense filmmakers—the last dinosaurs—who have unfortunately both left us this year. Béla Tarr passed away in January, and now we have received the deeply saddening news of Yervant Gianikian's passing.

Our eyes and hearts found themselves in their extraordinary cinema. Our most affectionate thoughts go to Lucrezia Lerro, who accompanied him on this final journey into the invisible.

Goodbye, Yervant. His gentle voice and profound thoughts will continue to guide us. We will fondly cherish the masterclass he held during the Tribute to a Vision festival last October.
