Dorica Makuc

Dorica Makuc, journalist and publicist, was born on April 29, 1928, in Udine. She attended elementary school in Ljubljana and Domžale, and later the Italian Scientific Lyceum in Gorizia, where she graduated from the Slovenian Teachers’ College in 1946. She continued her studies in Belgrade, earning a degree in Journalism and Diplomacy in 1952.
She began her career as a journalist for the Primorski dnevnik in Gorizia and Trieste (1952–1957), and later worked at the Yugoslav Foreign Trade Chamber Representative Office in Milan until 1960.
On November 1, 1962, she joined RTV Ljubljana, first as a TV journalist in the daily news programme, and later in the Documentary Department.
During her twenty years with RTV, she produced numerous television reports and documentaries, exploring various aspects of individual and social life and examining them from a historical perspective. She paid particular attention to the Slovenian national community in Italy, Austria, and the United States.
After retiring, she returned to Gorizia.
In 2017, she was one of the three recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the main celebration of Slovenians in Italy.
She passed away on November 30, 2020, at the age of 93.
