Presentation of the Book Our Ordinary Cinema at the èStoria Festival
As part of the èStoria festival – Film critic Paolo Caneppele and Slovenian translator Janko Petrovec present the new bilingual edition of Sandro Scandolara’s book
On Friday, May 30, 2025, the extraordinary bilingual publication Nostro cine quotidiano / Naš vsakdanji kino will be presented. The book highlights the strong connection between Gorizia and film culture. Published by Kinoatelje as part of the official programme of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025, it offers a valuable insight into the shared cultural heritage of the cross-border area between Gorizia and Nova Gorica.
Cinema as a mirror of the city: Paolo Caneppele’s talk
The presentation will place special focus on Gorizia’s relationship with cinema. Guest speaker Paolo Caneppele—renowned film historian and critic—has worked for over twenty years in some of Europe’s most important film archives, including the Cineteca di Bologna and the Film Museum in Vienna. He currently teaches at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. In the Gorizian context, he will offer a reflection on how cinema has contributed to shaping the city’s collective memory.
On the Slovenian translation
The event will also feature Janko Petrovec, journalist and long-time RTV Slovenija correspondent in Rome, who was responsible for the Slovenian translation of the volume. Now editor-in-chief at Radio Capodistria, Petrovec has been translating Italian literature for years, approaching each text with a keen sensitivity to the historical and cultural context it conveys.
The event will be held in Italian.
Free admission.
