Kinoatelje X BOFF

As part of a deepened collaboration between Kinoatelje and the Bovec Outdoor Film Festival (BOFF), we have prepared two cinematic experiences to enrich this year's festival program. The screening of the film Alfa is being held in cooperation with Kino Vozlišče, a part of the official program of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025, while The Run of Your Life will travel to Bovec with the traveling Cinema Soča-Isonzo Cinema. The short film Dust. by Kaja Rakušček, produced under Luksuz Produkcija, will also be screened. This collaboration strengthens the connection between communities and cultures through the power of moving images. Our involvement goes beyond programming, as Kinoatelje is also contributing technical equipment and support to the festival.

ALFA

A Dutch film made in a minority Slovenian co-production. It takes us into the snowy slopes and equally cold family relations. Although the story is set in the Swiss Alps, the stunning mountain scenery was primarily shot in Slovenia's high mountains: the team filmed on Kanin, Zelenica, Pokljuka, and Vogel.
The film follows Rein, who, after his mother’s death, moves to a small village in the Alps. There he spends his time meditating and works as a snowboarding instructor. His quiet, solitary life is shaken by the arrival of his extroverted father, Gijs. Rein loses his patience and takes his father away from the group to continue the climb alone. Amid the unforgiving nature, their struggle for dominance turns into a fight for survival.
The film had its world premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival in the “Days of the Author” section, where it won the Europa Cinemas Label 2024 award, presented by the Europe-wide association Europa Cinemas.

THE RUN OF YOUR LIFE

The film follows the inspiring journey of exceptional ultramarathon runners, including Tibi Ușeriu, Corneliu Buliga, Eva Hochbauer, Toma Coconea, and five others. Together, they embarked on an epic journey along the Via Transilvanica, the longest and most beautiful uninterrupted hiking trail in Romania, stretching from the north of the country to the Danube. 1,400 kilometers, more than 30,000 meters of elevation, in 24 days. Along the way, there will be a lot of challenges.
Each day brings plenty of reasons to quit: the threat of bears and shepherd dogs, getting lost at night, endless races in sun and rain, until the skin starts peeling and nails begin falling off. In the end, all masks fall. None of the runners has a guaranteed final destination. And they all know that suffering is inevitable.
The film won the award for Best Romanian Film at the Alpin Film Festival (Brașov, Romania, September 2024), and it premiered nationally on November 8, 2024, quickly becoming a hit in Romania.
